Jon Scott is now living in California. His unbelievable “story” of leaving the UK is that he had some bad business dealings with the Irish Republican Army and they threatened to infect his children with the AIDS virus, so he had to flee. Don’t doubt that he left owing taxes – he is doing the same thing here in the US.

Oh this sounds so familiar. About three years ago I took out an Orange contract for my wife. This spring she decided she wanted to upgrade her phone and went into the local orange shop. The girl there told her there was no problem upgrading, but because the original contract was in my name she would have to sign a new contract. Anyway, long story short, we got charged for the notice period on the old contract, as well as the cost of the new contract on the overlap. Many phone calls to Orange elicited only the same accusations as above: it was my wife’s fault … it was the girl in the shop’s fault and the shop isn’t related to Orange etc etc. Anyway, I persevered. If I couldn’t get a sensible answer for whoever I was talking to I demanded to talk to their supervisor and in the end I got the charge refunded. Not, though, an experience I would be happy to repeat, and I wouldn’t take out another contract with them.

Yes, I remember too well the Talkland days in Europa House. There was also a setup in Stratford on Avon that was run, for a time by a chap called Jon Scott. Talkland was originally funded by another person called Lars Frizzel (sp?). Not sure what happened to either of them although I did hear that Jon had scarpered to the US after owing the IR some significant tax payments. Possibly all speculation of course.
