Vodafone Fault Symptoms

Site Down / Halted.
Symptoms:
Customers will experience loss of signal in the area that the site covers. If there are other sites available in the area, they may still have signal, but may experience congestion (Network Busy / Three beeps), due to the reduced cell capacity in the area.

Incoming call symptoms:

Mobile Not responding (If no Divert on Not Reachable set)
Call diverted straight away (If the above divert is set)

Site working on reduced power / capacity / service.
Symptoms:
Congestion, Network busy on outgoing calls, or three beeps. This can also cause a reduction or loss in signal.

Incoming call symptoms:

Mobile Not responding or
Call diverted straight away or
Number Unobtainable.

Site down due to a ‘Link Fault’
BT provide the network links between many of our sites. The links also provide power to the sites. It is often the case that these links have faults, and cause the site to go down. Therefore affecting customers as in section (1).

HLR down / problems  (HLR – Home Location Register)
The HLR is where all of the customer’s data is held at the network. The HLR informs the network if for example there are any bars on the phone, therefore stopping a call being made if there is an outgoing bar.

What HLR a customer is on depends on the Number Range that he / she is connected to. For example, all 07775-537 numbers are held on HLRL. It is dependent on the first 8 digits.

Symptoms:

If a HLR goes down, customer will more often than not experience total loss of service, sometimes it may just affect incoming calls, or outgoing calls alone. Outgoing calls can receive all sorts of messages ranging from ‘call failed’ to ‘call rejected’, this can be dependent on the make or model of handset being used.

Incoming Call Symptoms:

Mobile not Responding
Divert straight away
Number Unobtainable
Constant Busy Tone.

One Response

  1. Ah, so the ‘three beeps’ really is due to network congestion? Brilliant, means I can keep my faithful Z600 (I thought it might have been on its last legs).
